Simple Homemade Biscuits & Gravy – By Amanda Yost
As fall quickly approaches, we wanted to share this quick and easy recipe for biscuits and gravy. Perfect for cool mornings or if you’re having breakfast for dinner, these biscuits are my go to. The recipe is my great grandmother’s, and you can enjoy them any way you prefer. Have them with some jam, create an egg and bacon breakfast biscuit, or enjoy with a chicken dinner. Today we are pairing them with country gravy. This should make about eight servings.

Biscuits
2 Cups Four, sifted
1/2 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp Cream of Tartar
4 tsp Baking Powder
1/2 Cup Crisco
2/3 Cup Milk
Preheat oven to 475 degrees. Mix dry ingredients together, then add milk and Crisco. Form 8 biscuits and bake for 12-14 minutes.
*Keep an eye on your biscuits so they don’t burn! Oven times vary. I just check the bottom of my biscuits to make sure they aren’t burning.
Gravy
1 Pound Ground Country Sausage
1/4 Cup Flour, sifted
2 Cups Milk
Start the gravy immediately after you put your biscuits in. I used a cast iron skillet to brown my country sausage over medium heat. Once browned, add your flour. After stirring in the flour, add the milk, 1 cup at a time, allowing the gravy to thicken between pours. I cook my gravy for about ten minutes, turn off the heat, and stir occasionally for four minutes. Let set for a couple of minutes, serve over a biscuit, then enjoy!
Let us know if you tried making these easy, homemade biscuits, and how you served them. Personally, my favorite way to eat them is with honey! YUM!!
