Storing Gas for Fall & Winter

Proper gas storage is important during cooler months, and we want to make sure you’re covered. Here are some quick tips on storing gas for winter.

Gas used in your lawn mower or other equipment can go bad over the winter, so storing it properly is essential. It must be stored in approved containers and can be placed in a detached shed or garage. Be sure to keep containers tightly sealed, and store them at room temperature.

When stowing away the grill for winter, be sure to leave the propane OUTSIDE. That means- don’t bring it into the garage and don’t put it in your shed. Just place the tank in a cool, dry area away from flames and dryer/furnace vents. It could also be a good idea to buy a dust cover for your propane tank, and store it off the ground if you can.

Lastly, if you are disposing of any gas, please be sure to do so at a government approved site! Visit columbus.gov for more information.
