April showers bring May flowers… and standing water.
Why is standing water a bad thing? For starters, it can kill the grass and other plants that grow in the flooded area. The plants’ roots hold soil in place; so when flooding kills these plants and their root systems, erosion can occur. These wet areas can also be a breeding ground for bacteria like mold, as well as insects like mosquitoes. Standing water might attract vermin like possums or rats, as they are looking for drinking water. The worst result is the potential harm it poses your home’s foundation.
The best thing to prevent standing water is to take care of any flooding issues as quickly as possible. Make sure you have a proper drainage system for your lawn.
